Funeral insurance at a later age: is it still possible?
It is never too late to think about funeral insurance, but the older you are, the more important it is to compare carefully. Most insurers accept new applications up to an age of 75 to 85.
Higher premiums at a later age
The monthly premium increases the older you are when taking out the policy. A 30-year-old pays on average €8–€15 per month, while a 65-year-old can quickly pay €30–€60 per month for the same coverage. Still, it can remain financially wise to take out insurance.
Medical examination
Some insurers require a medical examination or health declaration at an older age. However, there are also insurers that accept applicants at an advanced age without a medical exam. Compare these conditions carefully.
Considering alternatives
In addition to funeral insurance, you can also save for your funeral or open a dedicated funeral savings account. Weigh the pros and cons of each option and, if in doubt, consult an independent financial adviser.
